Notable Cases
R v Graham Oake, Blackfriars CC. Charges of ABH on youths, issue of self-defence even when defendant the initial aggressor.
R v Bullimore, Chelmsford CC. Deferred sentence requirements completed after period of deferred sentence and custodial sentence past, re-listed under slip rule.
R v Sugra Kashmiri, Birmingham CC (Junior Counsel). Defendant charged with 12 others for defrauding various banks under finance agreements for cars. Prepared skeleton arguments on computation of benefit figure as a result of which Crown capitulated and chose not to proceed with confiscation proceedings.
R v Carlos Yantnarain (June 2010) instructed in a matter involving aggravated burglary and several firearm offences, where shots had been fired.
R v Petras Aleknavicius & others (July 2010) instructed as counsel in a multi handed conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to handle stolen goods, involving the theft and ‘ringing’ of high value cars.
R v Petras Aleknavicius & others. Instructed in a multi handed conspiracy to cultivate cannabis, where over a hundred growing cannabis plants were found inside a container unit on a local farm.
Reported cases:
Extensively involved in preparing a petition to the House of Lords, relating to the issue of provocation and leaving the issue to the jury (see appeal case of [2005] EWCA Crim 1728).
R v Malik & Others [2008] EWCA Crim 1437-'Jury pressure', Jury sent out on Friday afternoon following a four day trial where the trial judge indicated he could not sit beyond Friday.
R v Jones (Richard) [2008] EWCA Crim 1553- Appeal against the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which were labelled 'too wide and draconian'.
Regina v Lukas Petrauskas [2010] EWCA Crim 152 – reduction in sentence for an offence of handling stolen goods, namely an expensive motor vehicle, found highly disguised about to board a ferry within a few days of being stolen.
Personal Interests
Naeem is a keen footballer and cricket, but recently his time has been taken in with his young family. He regards himself as a connoisseur of fine Indian cuisine although by his own admission his culinary skills extend to no more than beans on toast!!
