Crime
Nicholas is highly competent and experienced in the field of Criminal Defence. He has always been fiercely committed to representing defendants in all areas of the criminal law but retains a friendly and approachable manner. He does not undertake cases for the Crown Prosecution Service. In addition, he has also undertaken publicly and privately funded work in areas of Regulatory Law, including defending prosecutions by the Federation Against Copyright Theft and local authorities.
Nicholas has experience as a led junior in serious cases, including a Child Cruelty case involving the London Borough of Haringey, who were at the time beset by the problems thrown up by the Baby P case. During that case he attended the Family Courts to deal with technical and sensitive disclosure issues.
As a junior alone he now regularly deals with serious offences of Violence, including s.18 wounding and Football-related offences, serious Sexual offences, offences involving Firearms, including s.5 offences, Fraud, Aggravated Burglary and Robbery and cases involving large Drugs supply. His experience is derived from contested trials of various lengths and cases disposed of before trial.
Recently he has represented a defendant at trial in a large Fraud conspiracy at Huntingdon Crown Court involving Santander Bank and one defendant in the second of a series of three trials resulting from 'Operation Staten' at Kingston Crown Court which involved a campaign of violent Robberies, Burglaries, Frauds and Thefts from Mobile Phone stores across London in 2010.
He is currently instructed for the defence in a substantial case at Snaresbrook Crown Court involving multiple counts alleging the making and possession of indecent images and numerous breaches of SOPO.
His wealth of experience and competence extends to dealing with ancillary or additional aspects to sentencing such as POCA (confiscation) proceedings, Football Banning Orders, ASBOs, and SOPOs.
Nicholas has extensive experience of providing secondary advice on appeal following conviction or sentence at the Crown Court. He has advised numerous prospective appellants who have been given no or negative advice from originally instructed counsel. He has provided positive advice on a number of occasions and contested many full hearings before the Court of Appeal.
Civil
Nicholas has experience of Personal Injury and Credit Hire cases on the small claims and fast track for both claimant and defendant.
Personal Interests
Nicholas grew up in central London and still lives centrally. Outside of work he has a Jack Russell dog, enjoys golf and playing the guitar as hobbies. He retains an interest in History, particularly Tudor history, having studied it at university. He also endeavours to follow Arsenal FC home and away where possible.
